Remembering to Dress for Autumn 🍂

One of my goals this year is to actually dress for, and enjoy, autumn before it's just winter.

I'm not sure how it goes in the rest of the world, besides a few foggy memories of slipping on wet leaves in Portland, Oregon, 19 years ago.

But here in Scotland I've pretty much always worn my summer clothes through September until I can't stand the cold anymore, start chucking a jumper on top, and then October/November switching to full boring winter wardrobe til May.

So while I had a nasty summer cold about a month ago, I started buying some stuff on vinted and making outfits in my Whering app for autumn. Hopefully, some realistic and comfortable outfits that see me through the weather ups and downs.

Two days ago it was 20c and I was hot all day (I know, I know), then yesterday it was pishing with rain and 12c.

Thankfully this bright, pattern clashing merino scarf I bought on vinted really keeps things lively.

And the new elastic laces on my solovairs are working pretty well, I've worn them more this week than all of last autumn/winter. They're so much faster to put on.

This was a bit of a boring autumn look but the new navy chore coat I bought (on vinted, Seasalt) was a brilliant choice I think. Not too warm, keeps the drizzle off to a degree. I've also got a teal fur collar I can add to it to keep it 🌶️

And underneath it is an awesome sweater I bought from SWENN in Prince Edward Island, Canada when we were visiting family. It was a treat for me to buy something brand new, I try to make everything myself or buy second hand. But in this case I justified it as my souvenir. It's all made fairly locally, for clothing especially, with the screen printing in Montreal and the knitting in Long Island, NY. So it felt like a good purchase to me. I really hope it holds up.

I wanted a traditional knit jumper from the island but unfortunately I get itchy with most wool, so I knew I wouldn't wear it as often.

The other day I ended up in this outfit after just chucking extra layers on for a quick walk. I think I like it, in a kind of eyesore way. It was super comfortable and definitely not boring, so I'll count it as a win.

Hopefully, I can get a bit more creative this year with my cold weather outfits, but this is the tricky part of the year for me!
