Object 001 - IKEA Trousers
This was my first pair of trousers that I drafted myself, to my own measurements.
One of my favourite things is when I make a toile out of some seemingly "practice" fabric like an old sheet or something from the charity shop and it turns into an item I reach for endlessly. There's no guilt about how much it cost or worry about ruining expensive fabric. I can throw it on and let it get used as it is meant to.
The fabric for these trews came from an IKEA bedsheet I bought for my son in 2018. He was still in nursery. They'd been used multiple times a month for 7 years before they made it to my muslins box. Probably puked on many times, by both my son and his very faithful old cat, who always curls up with him at bedtime. She's 17 now and still meows if he's not in bed on time. The cotton is unbelievably soft after years of use and feels amazing to wear.

The elastic waist makes them comfy all the time, there are deep pockets that fit my phone, and the pattern makes an otherwise boring outfit a bit more interesting.
There are stains from the day I cycled into Inverness to try on sunglasses and forgot to do the sock tuck.
The pocket opened because I made a mistake I can't remember now. I rarely enjoy fixing things afterwards but I loved these too much to leave them busted.
And while I used this fabric to teach myself to make trousers, the trousers then taught me that you need to reinforce crotches if you want to keep that cooch contained 😄
I'm wearing them as we speak and don't plan on retiring them any time soon!
